- The author seems to understand how much Bamjee felt and how much pressure the main character has faced during her life time and yet, she still fight for it.
2. In the story humorous or tragic or frightening? Does the author want you to laugh or cry, to feel happy or sad, to experience anger or fear?
- It is a tragic story. The author wanted us to cry, to feel sad, and to experience fear while we read this story. We felt sorry for Bamjee and experienced how fearful she felt when she was in jail.
3. What is the author's attitude toward characters or the narrator? Does the author like or dislike, trust or mistrust the characters or the narrator?
- The author felt great to there characters. The author liked and trusted the characters. So, do we, the readers. We do trusted the character and understand how the character felt.

Symbolism - A chip of glass ruby
1. What are some of the symbols in the story?
- Family; Even though one member of the family got into troubles the other would also help them too Love - caring and loving each other even though they lived in different places.
2. Are there any object which seem to have a symbolic meaning? What are their meanings?
- Love and caring; Zanip Bamjee cared for her beloved Indian American friend so she decided to be a political activist which lead her to jail. When Bamjee was in jailed, her family member help take care of her children.
3. Do any people act as symbols in the story? What do they represent?
- Yes, they all cared for each other.
4. Do aspects of the story's setting seem symbolic? In what way?
-Yes, it showed how much the environment interact with the main character. How much pressure they got and lead to lots of more circumstances.
5. Is one symbol used throughout the story or do the symbols change?
- The symbols do changed.
